.dds plugins for photoshop
  • I don't know if I belong here, I don't feel like a developer. Just a regular user in need of some special files to save according to tutorials.

I need dds texture fileformat for Ati Radeon. Just can't make it work. Have downloaded 8.51 installed everything ok. Just can't save any file as dds. I have been using tiff so far, but I need more options. Have windows 7, photoshop CS5, 64 bits. Tried numerous times, just can't make it work. I saw another save it on his xp, and then what did he do? I have an xp too, but no photoshop on that one.

What am I doing wrong? Using this link http://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-texture-tools-adobe-photoshop

Another user tried it on a photoshop site, he installed it but couldn't use it either. Here from Adobe forums: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4170580#4170580

  • Hi Marita,

Yes, it does not looks like the plugin is properly loaded.
Can you try to find "dds.8bi" in your computer?
It should normally be installed in your photoshop plug-ins\FileFormat directory.

If not, please place the plugin into the directory directory as stated above.
The dds file type should appear when you click on Save/Save as as long as your image is flatten.

Please ensure that you have installed the 64bit version of the plugin as well.
  • I have a dds file in my plugins fileformat directory. I have a small C, too small to have photoshop on. I have it on D. But parts of the plugins save on C:\programfiles\NVIDIA Corporation. I don't know if that means anything. Thanks for your help. It is the 64 file. I can't be totally sure I deleted all files before I tried over again, but the program said it would delete files, so then it should be ok. This is my dds file saved:

  • Hi Marita,

From your screenshot, it seems that you are using the wrong version of the plugin installed. Please uninstall the plugin and install this instead.

You should have a dds64.8bi file once installed under the File-Formats directory.

You require the 64bit version of the plugin as you are using a 64bit version of photoshop cs5.
  • I downloaded your file and installed. Still no change and the file I have in my directory is still the same: http://s196.photobucket.com/albums/aa209/Volve_bucket/?action=view&current=ddsfil64.jpg

    Hi Marita,

Can you verify under your Control Panel->Programs And Feature that "NVIDIA Photoshop Plug-ins 64bit" is shown.

I notice that there was no change in the file date time from the last response. During installation where was the Photoshop installation detected to be at? Has it detected it to be in your D:\ ?

    Can you perform the following.
    1. Uninstall all instance of "NVIDIA Photoshop Plug-ins".
    2. Delete dds.8bi manually if it was not deleted during installation.
    3. Reinstall an updated version that has made some minor bug fixes from the following url http://developer.nvidia.com/sites/default/files/akamai/tools/files/Photoshop_Plugins_x64_8.52.0208.1800.exe
  • Sorry about the very late reply. Had other technical problems too.

I removed everything I could find. The automatic installer didn't want to remove anything, I never use it anyway. That might have been the problem.

When I reinstalled I installed where I thought was the right place, I got that silly message from Windows7 about "probably not installed correctly", I thought that was a good sight.

Now I can save dds! Thanks for your help.
