304.64 x86_64 double startup

hi,

i’m running fedora 18 (currently beta, yes i know) on a macbook 10,1. so far things work fine (wrt. to nvidia gfx) except for the following:

  • when the nvidia x driver starts up it takes approx. 20 seconds then it restarts; the second time will also enable the keyboard lights and finally provide an x session; the x log (for all startups) does not contain anything other than that the first session was successfully terminated; is this a known problem? if so, is there an ETA for a fix?

  • the display brightness keys only work after suspend; even echoing to ‘/sys/class/backlight/gmux_backlight/brightness’ does not work until after a suspend/resume cycle; is this a known problem? any ETA for a fix?

  • switching to a console (ctrl+alt+fn?) only shows a blank screen, switching back to x works fine though; is this a known problem? if so, any ETA for a fix?

i’m using the akmod driver wrapper from the rpmfusion repository and would like to stay with this arrangement; meaning, if possible, i’d like to avoid the nvidi-*.run installer. but, i can supply whatever information is required for analyzing the above.

nvidia-bug-report.log.gz.bmp (62.3 KB)

added nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (strip the .bmp suffix, forum upload insisted to add this)

According to the timestamps on the X log files, an X server was started on display :1 at 21:57:28 and lasted about 14 seconds before it was shut down cleanly. Then, a second X server was started at 21:59:07 and lasted over an hour and was still running when you generated the bug report log. I don’t see any messages in the log that indicate that there was a problem with the drivers.

I don’t think there’s anything the NVIDIA driver could be doing that would explain why the first X server was started and stopped so quickly. I would suggest checking the Fedora 18 bug tracker or support forums to see if others are having similar problems since it sounds like a problem with Fedora’s boot scripts or display manager.
