I have been experiencing crashes with the Nvidia driver in several circumstances, notably on changing virtual terminal, or, when DRM KMS is enabled, as soon as the graphical login prompt.
It appears that these crashes happen when the BIOS is configured to allow non-UEFI boot (Legacy boot options) : when these are enabled, the GRUB menu has a lesser resolution and the graphical display boots correctly ; when these are disabled, the converse.
Note that in both cases, GRUB and the subsequent Linux kernel are booting in UEFI mode, and there are no actual non-UEFI boot options beside external disks.
