A couple of questions about using NVIDIA as RandR output provider with the NVIDIA 450.51 beta driver

Hello everyone,

I just read that the NVIDIA 450.51 beta driver finally supports Reverse Prime allowing RandR to be used as an Output Source (which finally solves the issue where my laptop uses an iGPU for the Onboard display and the NVIDIA dGPU for external monitors), but I have a couple of questions about it for migrating away from xf86-video-intel to xf86-video-modesetting

  • Is Bumblebee still required or is it safe to remove the package?
  • Is bbswitch / switcheroo still required or is it safe to remove the package?
  • Is there any additional configuration that needs to be done, besides the steps mentioned on: Chapter 33. Offloading Graphics Display with RandR 1.4?

So far, the results weren’t really usable

In general, Bumblebee and any kind of PRIME are mutual exclusives, you can only use one of them.
If the output sink feature will be a full replacement depends on your expectations. So far, much more data has to be collected.
