Topic says it all for for someone who has been using a multiplatform HP printer on a mesh network to print code, configs, and data from Xaviers.
sudo apt install cups
took care of installing the missing files and setting up the printer daemon,
and the error message in the Settings Printers window was replaced by the networked printer info and settings buttons.
Restart loaded the new system configurations, started the CUPS daemon, so app print dialogs connected immediately and printed.
