All Linux distros fail to boot on Geforce 960M

Hello everyone!

I have a Laptop with Geforce 960m + Intel 6700 HQ, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to boot Linux on this machine after some recent driver updates (470, 535, 550 series, to name a few).

I’ve so far tried Ubuntu 22.0.4, 24.0.4, Manjaro 24.0.5 and Fedora 40. All to no avail.

Is there anything I can do track this down?

I’ve already filed a bug at Bug #2071680 “Ubuntu fails to boot” : Bugs : Ubuntu.

But unfortunately journalctl fails to capture the failed boot logs (it only logs if only you boot via recovery mode).

So how can I track this issue, to see if it’s either fixed on future driver updates, or report it as a bug?

Hi, @990178851 , unfortunately it doesn’t have such options, even though I have the latest BIOS:

BIOS options

what in this

@990178851, This is how the Graphics Configuration settings looks:

So there is no option for disabling or enabling, but only for DVMT Pre-Allocation.

Furthermore, if I switch away from intel vi prime-select nvidia from terminal, I get a blackscreen even when booting via recovery mode. So not sure if disabling intel could work as a workaround.

1、Maybe you can install the nvidia 560 driver without the nvidia card plugging in fresh fedora40 installed,
2、then power off,and plug nvidia card,
3、reboot to see

use method 2

  1. Unfortunately my system is a laptop, therefore I can’t physically unplug the card.
  2. As for 560, I’ve already tried it on Ubuntu 24.10, and it didn’t work.
