Autononomous drone that can land on landing pad


I am wondering if someone has some tips for how to implement an autonomous drone that can land on a specific type of landing pad. The mission would be to go to a certain waypoint and do a search around the waypoint to find the landing pad. There would be some object detection with custom images to be able to recognize the landing pad and then some kind of PID to land. Advice for the best way to go about programming this in a tight deadline would be appreciated.
