Bigscreen Beyond HMD unable to be initialized on Nvidia possibly due to DSC BPP issue

Hello, I recently ditched Windows for Linux, has been great with my 4070. But I also ordered a Big Screen Beyond 2, and was disappointed that it will only work with AMD gpu’s on Linux. I hope the movement back on 3/10 is gaining momentum!

This is the year of the Linux desktop after all, right?

I would also like an update or push to this issue, as i am planning to switch onto linux with a big screen order currently ordered. Thanks!

@TomNVIDIA Would it be possible to get another status update on this issue?

Considering the growing popularity to move to linux as a primary platform and the growing need for display stream compression for higher resolution HMD’s, I would think getting this working would be something worth pursuing. Again, if there is any information any of us would be able to give you to help resolve this issue, please let us know.

The primary source for getting a linux vr environment setup would be this guide here: VR Gear & GPUs | Linux VR Adventures Wiki

Under the “Bigscreen Beyond” in the XR Devices table, there is a reference to a kernel patch (link below) for AMD cards to fix the BPP rate. Perhaps something similar is required for the Nvidia drivers?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @aritger,

Can you please provide an update here?

We’ve root caused the problem (the driver was not properly handling the “DSC pass-through” bit from the EDID). The fix should be available in an upcoming release. I’m very sorry for all the delays.

That is fantastic news to hear. Thank you for the information. Once the driver is release I will go through and do some checking to see if there are any other issues that may be related to this that could have been missed by this overarching bug.
