With the omniverse launcher there was an option to download blender for omniverse. and that is the software i used for safely converting .blend files into .usd files.
However i’m really not sure how to add teh plugin to my installation of blender. I mean, I downloaded blender, I also downlaoded the blender_omniverse_addons repo, now, how do i add the add on to blender so that I will have this menu:
I confirmed that you just need to use the standard Blender now, so please share the log file, the .usdz file, and the command line used for our reproduction.
How can I generate a .usdz file? the only option in blender is .usd.
also, is there a specific way to import the .usd file into omniverse? I simply open the file from the Content window. There are no errors whats so ever when I open the file (so there shouldnt be anything interesting in the logs). Blender simply doesnt export the material correctly. This was never an issue with the omniverse addon. I’m wondering why the omniverse add on was removed by omniverse…it is a needed tool, blender on its own does not export .usd files properly in alot of cases.
i think you had meant to type .usd, so the mod was just trying to ask for the file with the file type you had mentioned. but to export out as .usdz, you just need to type out that format during Blender export.
now, regarding the faulty export - by looking at what you are trying to export, it looks like you have particles/hair on the plane mesh which might be what you are trying to get out of Blender, did you try to enable hair option during export?
the bigger concern of yours was the development of Blender addon - i think the connectors were always meant to be a temporary bridge before more software decides to implement OpenUSD. some are certainly slower than others on the up take, but as an user, it’s hard to see NVIDIA keeping up with every DCCs from dev to release version. so perhaps the end game has always been to push other software to support USD natively in each program. the trick here, however, is that each program might implement differently, and perhaps it’s just a matter of time before there is little to no discrepancies with export/import. but this is just my 2c 😊
@Simplychenable thank you for trying to help. you are right, the grass itself is part of the material. As of now, since the omniverse addon was removed, there is no way to correctly export this type of material into omniverse. after enabling hair in the export settings:
@danielle.sisserman nice! i have uninstalled my launcher from a while ago. i wonder if there’s a way to retain the plugin after launcher’s deprecated in october. perhaps try to locate the source code before it’s completely gone!
There are so many issues with the 4.5.0 version and no so much help here (maybe the version should not be marked stable?) I simply downloaded isaac sim 4.2.0 and am utilizing both versions. Hopefully the Omniverse team will be able to provide some answers soon
