Can capture video data through CSI port without Video Input Unit?

On tx2 board,
Normally, video route is Sensor->CSI->VI->V4l2->User,
Can I capture video data without VI unit as the route: Sensor->CSI->V4l2->User?

may I know what’s your actual use-case? exclude VI unit is not support by default.
