I installed the UBUNTU CLI environment on DGX. Can I MULTI BOOTING WINDOWS using a virtual machine?
Currently, DGX servers have AMD CPUs and V100 GPUs.
I have tried multiple installations of WINDOWS10 on the DGX server using SSH. However, when I check the GUI using QEMU and XMING, the following BLUE SCREEN occurs and there is a problem of infinite reboot.
Hi @ada.choi . We don’t test nor support running Windows VMs on DGX (and practically we have deprecated support for KVM on the systems, since there was little customer demand for it).
If we ignore the “not supported” aspect, are you trying to do this with qemu+kvm and using GPU passthrough? Which DGX system is this?
Hi,
Can I install VMs on a DGX system and share the GPUs using passthru or vGPU? If this is possible, what is the best hypervisor to do it, ESXi? Are there any documentation for this?
Thank you in advance.
Hi @ugurbas , we don’t have any documentation on this because it’s not supported. Depending on the DGX system this can get complicated (especially with NVLink switch based systems like DGX-2, DGX A100, etc.). Both PCI passthrough and vGPU have been made to work on various systems internally, but the specifics depend on the system and what your end goal is.
Hi Scott,
Just to confirm, DGX systems do not support installing virtual machines, regardless of whether it’s a Windows or Linux VM. Is that correct?
Thank you for your prompt responses to my questions across various topics—I really appreciate your help!
Best regards,
