Can the Jetson TX2 be bricked?

Hello,

Can the Jetson TX2 always be recovered, even if there is a software failure when flashing the boot loader and kernel? I would like to be sure that there is always a fallback configuration mechanism. This would indicate that there is an area of flash that cannot be written in order to preserve this recovery mode.

Thanks.

Unless there is a hardware/power-up failure (in which case the unit should be RMA’d), the Jetson should always be able to be entered into Recovery mode and connected to host PC for re-flashing of the bootloader, kernel, and root filesystem.

In forum posts that allude to their Jetson being “bricked”, it most frequently turns out to be invalid kernel / device tree configuration or the HDMI not detecting the display. Often fixed by re-flashing the device with a known JetPack-L4T build.
