I have had one hell of a time today. I’m hoping I wake up tomorrow with some answers because I have not been able to get a single thing running on my end. I have tried for legitimately 7 hours today to get Debian 12 or Manjaro to install or even recognize my 5080, and to absolutely no avail was I anywhere close to even getting more than one monitor working. I tried 570, I tried 535, it literally does not matter. If I install 570, which will happen, I’m met with only being able to access the TTY command line because XServer bricks and won’t render a GUI. I’m absolutely awestruck and out of ideas. Please help me lol
First, as stated in the pinned post “If you have a problem, PLEASE read this first”,
Please always include a copy of an
nvidia-bug-report.log.gz
file, which can be generated with thenvidia-bug-report.sh
script
…otherwise it will be very difficult for anyone to help you.
Second, 50xx support was added only in the very latest 570.86.16, so make sure you are using this. This means that the ugly *.run file is currently the only option for you (as the apt repo for debian-12 is at 570.86.15).
I am using Archlinux and another tip is that you need to use the open source nvidia drivers (I am not talking about nouveau, but the latest open-source drivers published by nvidia, version 570.86.16.)
“open” has been the default for several versions of *.run installers now. Furthermore Blackwell is not supported at all by the proprietary flavor, so I guess the installer would complain if an attempt to install proprietary was made.
