Clarification on GR00T License: Sharing Fine-Tuning Documentation/Reports for Commercial Use

Hello NVIDIA Dev Community and Moderators,

I am seeking clarification regarding the license implications for research derived from the GR00T n1 model.

My team is currently conducting research involving fine-tuning the GR00T n1 model. We may enter into collaboration with a business partner (a corporate entity) who requires access to our research documentation and reports.

My question pertains specifically to the sharing of methodology and results, not the distribution or commercial use of the model weights themselves.

My Specific Licensing Question:

Is it permitted under the GR00T license to provide a business partner with the following documents?

  1. Documentation detailing the implementation methods, steps, and parameters used for fine-tuning the GR00T n1 model.

  2. An experimental results report summarizing the quantitative and qualitative performance metrics of the fine-tuned model.

Context:

  • The partner would not receive the actual GR00T n1 model weights or any deployable artifact.

  • The content shared is purely research documentation describing the process and outcome of the fine-tuning work.

We want to ensure that providing technical reports about the research process, even to a commercial entity, does not violate any restrictions related to the non-commercial use of the model itself.

Any guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for raising this licensing question—it’s an important consideration for anyone planning commercial use or partnership work with GR00T.

There’s a helpful related discussion here: Clarification on GR00T License for Commercial Use, which covers license terms for both the model code and pre-trained weights.

Hi @VickNV ,

Thank you for the link to the related discussion.

I did review that thread, but my specific question about sharing documentation and research reports is still unanswered. The other discussion focuses on the commercial use/deployment of the model weights, which we understand is currently prohibited.

To clarify, is it permitted to provide a business partner with fine-tuning documentation and experimental results reports, even if we are not providing the model weights or a deployable version?

We need to know if sharing documentation about the research violates the GR00T license.

Thank you again for your time.

Yes, both are permitted under the GR00T license. The key restriction is that you cannot deploy the model for commercial use.
