Hi NVIDIA Team,
We are designing custom carrier board with IGX Thor T5000 module. We would like to check whether the IGX Thor platform supports the Marvell’s 10G PHY device CUX3520 PHY.
As mentioned in the IGX T5000 datasheet:
“IGX T5000 has four integrated Multi-Gigabit Ethernet (MGBE) controllers which can support up to 100 Gbps of total bandwidth.”
“Each MGBE controller can independently operate at 2.5Gbps, 5Gbps, 10Gbps or 25Gbps throughput mode.”
“The Thor MGBE controllers can be connected to external devices via XFI/SFI or USXGMII differential lanes supporting 5Gbps and 10Gbps line rates, or via 25GAUI differential lanes supporting 25Gbps line rate.”
In our design, we are planning to use one of the available 25G MGBE ports and configure it for 10Gbps line rate operation with the CUX3520 PHY.
Could you please confirm whether IGX Thor / IGX T5000 platform supports this chipset?
Additionally, please let us know if there are any specific configuration requirements, validated PHY list, or interface constraints that need to be considered while using this PHY with the MGBE controller.
Regards,
Manikandan
There is currently no support for PHY on IGX Thor.
Dear Chris,
Thank you for your reply.
Could you please elaborate on what is meant by “There is currently no support for PHY on IGX Thor”? whether
-
The limitation is related to BSP/software support (driver, device tree, validation), or
-
External Ethernet PHY devices are not supported by the hardware/platform itself.
We are planning to use a MGBE ports from the IGX Thor T5000 and interface them to 10G Ethernet ports through the USXGMII interface. For this implementation, we intend to use the Marvell CUX3520 10G PHY IC. Please find the block diagram provided above for your reference.
Could you please confirm whether proper operation of the USXGMII interface with an external 10G PHY is feasible/supported?
Regards,
Manikandan
The current limitation is software, not the hardware. The IGX Thor T5000 hardware can support USXGMII with a 10G PHY.
Your block diagram looks ok.
Dear Chris,
Thank you for the clarification.
In our previous design, we used the Marvell AQR113C 10G PHY with the AGX Orin SOM(Jetpack 6.2), which had software support for that PHY device. We have now migrated to the IGX Thor T5000 platform(IGX-SW 2.0 Production Release; kernel 6.8.12) and are also evaluating a different 10G PHY, the Marvell CUX3520, primarily due to its gPTP support.
Could you please provide the list of 10G PHY devices that are currently supported by IGX Thor, having both software and hardware support? This information will help us evaluate and select an appropriate 10G PHY device for our design.
Additionally, along with the list of 10G PHY devices supported on IGX Thor, it would be helpful if you could share - which of these PHYs support IEEE 802.1AS (gPTP) feature, as this is a key requirement for our application and validated for IEEE 802.1AS (gPTP) operation on the IGX Thor platform.
Looking forward to your response.
Regards,
Manikandan
! High Importance
Dear Chris,
I would like to follow up on the previous comment regarding the list of 10G PHY devices supported on the IGX Thor platform and the list of PHY devices containing IEEE 802.1AS (gPTP) support.
Additionally, could you please confirm whether the Marvell AQR113C 10G PHY, which we used previously with the AGX Orin platform, is supported on IGX Thor (both on software and hardware)?
As this information is currently blocking our design decisions, we would greatly appreciate your input at the earliest possible convenience.
Regards,
Manikandan
A pending IGX Thor Supported Components List update includes a PHY part validated by NVIDIA, with software support. I will reply here with a link when the new SCL is available on the download center.
