Closest distance and direction to volume from point

Hello All,
I have just started looking into the GVDB library as a means to position particles to the surface of a mesh. However none of the examples (as far as I am aware) seem to addressed problems similar to this. Is there a way to use GVDB to generate a distance and direction to the closest position on a surface of volume from a point?


With the new release we introduce “explicit ray tracing” where you can cast rays from arbitrary points and get hit results efficiently. That may be what you want. The Programming Guide has a section on this topic.
