Computer Freezing Issues When Outputting 120Hz to Philips TV

Hello everyone,

I’m experiencing a frustrating issue with my setup, and I hope to find some solutions or insights from the community.

Here’s my setup:

  • PC: Windows 11 with the latest updates
  • GPU: NVIDIA 4070 Super with the latest drivers
  • TV: Philips 65PUS8848/12 with 120Hz support
  • Cable: Complete cable from PS5, supporting 120Hz
  • Monitors: Two different monitors (AOC and Xiaomi) connected to the PC

The Problem:
My computer completely freezes during various operations when changing display settings while outputting at 120Hz to the TV. The freeze is so severe that none of the buttons respond, and I have to perform a hard reset of the PC.

Here’s what typically happens: I was trying to watch a movie and selected the TV for output while extending the display, then disconnected the two monitors. I could watch the movie without issues, but when I reconnected the monitors, there was a 90% chance my computer would freeze.

I have tried numerous troubleshooting steps – updating everything, reinstalling drivers, etc. Eventually, I stumbled upon a possible solution. I read that similar issues can arise due to G-Sync technology, so I disabled it wherever possible. However, I found that with G-Sync enabled on the monitor and disabled in the NVIDIA control panel, I managed to reduce most of the freezing problems.

But my issues didn’t stop there. I started experiencing random freezes again, particularly when changing resolutions in games or switching between windowed and fullscreen modes. Additionally, my PC would definitely freeze if I enabled HDR in the Windows settings for the TV.

I also learned from a local forum where people discussed issues with Philips TVs that three others have faced comparable problems. They tried different cables and GPUs, but none of those changes made a difference.

I see something like this in the event log

Thank you in advance for any help or advice! 🙏
