Cube or polyhedron section tool extension

Greetings!

I’m a process plant/machinery designer. Been using Unreal Engine & Twinmotion
for visualization, engineering review and sales presentation.

I found Nvidia Omniverse the more appropriate tool for our industry.

I wish that the current section tool should be improved into a cube or polyhedron
shaped section tool. Wherein any objects that intersect with the section tool
will be dissolved or revealed. Which will allow users to choose a specific
area of the model to be shown. Very useful for factory/machinery design.

Please see short video to further illustrate:

Thanks a lot.

Thanks Casisdante,
We really appreciate your specific tool feedback on Create. I am so glad to here you have switched from UE and Twinmotion to OV Create. I will pass your feedback onto the Dev Team and make a feature request ticket. Thanks

I am also glad a section tool exists, but documentation/features seem very limited:

  • Is it possible to keyframe turning the sections on and off?
  • Is it possible to add a colored highlight on any edges which are cut away? Things can become quite messy without it (even the documentation example image is difficult to read).
  • How do you limit the section to only a few objects/how do you exclude a few objects from a section? Lots of UX challenges here it seems…
  • It would be good UX to be able to exclude objects of certain types as well, like Lights (and then just thinking freely here, but excluding objects with certain materials or other custom tagged properties, for example).
  • When I tested enabling a section in a basic scene in 2023.1 the clouds disappeared and the scene became basically black…
  • How are you supposed to animate the section? I don’t see that each saved section gets their own Xform…
  • In fact, are multiple sections in the viewport at the same time supported at all?
  • The Xform transform for the section tool itself(?) is also that weird one that’s basically unusable by any regular person…

  • The Section panel itself can’t be scrolled…
