Cuda driver installation or update always lead to the latest version of 12.3

Hi Dears,

I have been trying to install CUDA driver with the specific version of 11.7. I followed the official installation instruction of https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-11-7-0-download-archive. While when it went to the step of sudo apt-get -y install cuda, it seems cuda driver 12.3 is always the one that was installed. I am not sure why the 11.7 installation kit was always overwritten or what happened behind that. Could you show me the rope ?

Thanks!

In order to install an older version than the latest, you need to specify the version.

Instead of sudo apt-get -y install cuda it would be necessary to do sudo apt-get -y install cuda-11-7.

This is covered in the CUDA linux install guide.
