Cuda install hangs searching for conflicting X files

When installing the CUDA driver on Ubuntu 12.04, the installation hangs at this step:

Searching for conflicting X files:

I think the problem is that it’s going through the entire filesystem, including any network filesystems I’ve mounted. Older versions of the driver used to have a “–no-recursion” flag which prevented that, but the new drivers don’t seem to have it any more.
Any ideas how to fix that?

I’m also facing this problem. Anyone has solved this? Isn’t there any support team, or this is “help yourself” forum?!
