CUDA Installer hangs

I’m trying to install CUDA 2.1 on a Core i7/GTX280 machine running Vista Business 64-bit.
The driver and SDK installs without a hitch, but the toolkit installer only displays “NVIDIA CUDA Toolkit is configuring your new software installation.” and hangs infinitely.

This seems to be the same problem as reported in [url=“http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=77641”]http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=77641[/url], but rebooting does not help.
