CUDA on Ubuntu 24.10?

Has anyone successfully installed CUDA on Ubuntu 24.10 (Oracular)? I have apt installed the standard packages that come with Ubuntu but no luck. When I go to the NVIDIA download page the latest version listed is 24.04.

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

My machine has an intelGPU and the mobile rtx A4000

I would prefer to run 24.10 because of it’s Wayland support.
Any hints on:

  1. get my machine back to a clean state
  2. Install CUDA so that it sees my A4000. I don’t need it for graphics, just for CUDA
