CUDA SDK 4.0.17 win 64 installation problem

I have downloaded (several times) the CUDA SDK ver 4.0.17 for win 64 and whenever installing it, the installation freezes when “registering product” (just after giving the name and company). I tried with and without subscribing to news and there is no difference. I tried rebooting (no way to stop the installer in any other way) and does not help either.
Any suggestion?
