CUDA toolkit: executable vs conda install cuda-tookit?

On Windows 11, after installing GPU drivers, is there a difference between manually downloading and installing the CUDA toolkit executables and installing via conda install -c nividia cuda-toolkit?

I am asking because I am having some issues with the GPU in certain contexts. The machine has crashed during training sessions, and none of the python packages (e.g.,cuda-tools, cuda-compiler, cuda-toolkit, …) shows up when I inspect my environment using numba -s.

EDIT: My goal is to install CUDA toolkit v12.1*, and I had install VS2022/C++ compiler before installing toolkit.
