Customizing object following

I would like to customize the object following.
I was able to modify it to re calculate when a specific object is detected but it seems the motors moving too fast when recalculating and looses the detected object. I couldn’t find a lot of documentation though in the robot set motors and the functions for determining the x-distance as well as how to incorporate MOT. Is there somewhere I can find more information on this?
