Cutom kernel: devtmpfs mounting error

Hi.

I’ve made a custom kernel on a custom board. U-boot seems to work fine but when the kernel launches then when the mounting procedure starts it always fails with following error code:

What was your starting kernel configuration? There is devtmpfs support required for the kernel’s configuration:

Hi linuxdev, both flags are enabled in my .config, which actually is the same with the tegra12_defconfig.

Well, the problem seemed to be a corrupted file system. I’ve fixed that by just re-create a new one.

But the issue with the mmc1 timeout still remains.

Edit: Is there any way to completely disable SD card? Or change it’s location from mmc3 to mmc1? How do you do that?

Since your kernel supports devtmpfs, I am at a loss as to why devtmpfs mount fails. The actual content is a virtual file system, so the kernel drivers produce that content in RAM, not on hard drive. Your kernel config matches tegra12_defconfig, so the cause of this failure is something in the kernel’s environment, not in kernel configuration.

The problem may not be the SD card slot at all. The devtmpfs is the “/dev” directory, which contains the device special files, including “/dev/mmcblk*”. If mmcblk1 fails, it is a strong possibility that the access determining failure was via “/dev/mmcblk1”. The error message probably does not differentiate between mount failing due to other reasons, versus failing due to the file being completely missing. I suspect that if you figure out why “/dev” can’t mount, then the mmcblk1 error will go away.

Thanks for your replies. I’ve solved the mounting error as the rootfs was corrupted. I’ve also managed to boot from sdmmc1 without problems.

What I’m trying to understand now is how the ‘vbus_gpio’ property is set in the device tree. Although I’ve set it like that:

Also, there isn’t much information about the tegra’s dts properties and how they are used in the kernel drivers.

I have not researched what you’re looking at, but there is always the possibility that PINMUX needs further setup before that controller will work as expected. Your custom design might have other requirements, but have you gone through the original dts of a Jetson TK1 to compare? For my reference I’m looking at an extracted dts from the running system’s dtb under R21.4.

The original dts has a lot of USB setup, but none of that particular setup directly references the 0x7d00 address for the USB controllers…other things, such as regulators and PINMUX, have many settings related to USB. The setting you are looking at is one of those “related” settings. but I’m thinking that the setting needs to be in another location, not under “usb@7d008000”, or alternatively, needs something else to make that pin available prior to reaching the point where you are using the setting. Remember that that both the pin being routed from and the bus being routed to could need setup prior to use.
