delicated gfx card for PhysX

hi,

I have read about this article that we can have another gfx card just for PhysX processing. I am currently running a x48 board which supports xfire. And i am using 9800GTX, so can we have another 9600 gfx card slot into the pcie slot even if i am not running sli and my x48 does not support sli?

If i can still slot a card in my x48, do i need to use x16 pcie? the architecture of my x48 board is i have 2 x 16, 2 x1 and 2 x4 pcie slots. the 2 x1 slots and the remainding x16 slot are blocked by my thermaltake H03 VGA cooler and 1 of the x4 pcie is used by my Creative xi-fi titanium champion series card thus i am left with 1 x4 slot. Can i use it for the delicated processor and will it reduce the performance?

Hey! I have the same problem!!

I’ve tried to install 178.24 WHQL and 180.43 beta drivers with Nvidia PhysX v8.10.13, but I can’t select which GPU I want to do physics!!! I have an 8800gtx and 8800gts cards on a Asus nforce 680i sli mobo (2x pciex x16 and 1x pciex x8 slots).

Please help us!!

Many thanks…

                                                                              ...Alex

Ah!

I have an Ageia card that came out a while ago,NVIDIA brought the company and moved the software to run THEIR GPU chips!

I just found out the AGEIA card is completly locked out in the NEW version Driver,Hey! I paid $245.00 for that card..ONLY Nvidia video cards will work NOW!

WHY can I not use the card with my GTX 280 as added on GPU as they do with THEIR cards....They BROUGHT AGEIA and the cards SO USE THEM rather than DUMPING
them and making mine a DOOR STOP! I resent that! OLD story, they did not make them so dump them! ARGGGG!

   Dennis <img src='http://hqnveipbwb20/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsdown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Because the Aegeia card is not a GPU?

WHAT! ? YOU are VERY WRONG. IT is. What do think it is? External Media

WHY ?

Read THIS! this is the card I own!

ASUS PhysX P1 Card powered by AGEIA PhysX processor, things don’t just look real, and they act real and feel real. Prepare to be shocked by stunning massively destructible buildings and landscapes; explosions that cause collateral damage; lifelike characters with spectacular new weapons; realistic smoke, fog and oozing fluids are all now possible with the ASUS PhysX P1!

OK!, The processor IS a programable GPU as is the Nvidia version,They BOTH do the same thing. :magic:

1 > Whose software did they MODIFY to work on THEIR GPU ? Ageia thats WHO! What did Ageia make…? A GPU card that allowed HD effects in Games done with a GPU!

NVIDIA saw this and BROUGHT the Company for a reason, they wanted the software,They Then Modified it so it would work with their GPU’s within the workings of their

VIDEO CARDS! So far the earlier Drivers SUPPORTED the Ageia board, one could use Either GPU by selecting the GPU one wanted to use,but not BOTH..now they support

up to 4 Video Nvidia cards and NOT the Org Ageia card,I have a GTX 280 and wanted to use the Ageia card as the Second GPU as they do with two Video cards, one can

use one for video and the other for something else,so why is the card left out! IT is STILL being sold by ASUS!

2 > The Ageia card has been around for about 3 years,it is used in MANY Games …Crisis…GRAW 2…F.E.A.R and it,s next version, to name a few, others use a software version

       called Havock! <img src='http://hqnveipbwb20/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fear.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':fear:' />

I have HAD a Ageia card for quite a while, and KNOW very well it is a GPU card as I USED to use it with Crisis BEFORE Nvidia got their hands on it! External Media

And now if I put the LATEST driver in The Ageia parts of the driver are GREYED out! it seem’s Nvidia don’t want us to use the card anymore! <img src=‘http://hqnveipbwb20/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crying.gif’ class=‘bbc_emoticon’ alt=‘:’(’ />

Delivering physics in games is no easy task. It’s an extremely compute-intensive environment based on a unique set of physics algorithms that require tremendous amounts of simultaneous mathematical and logical calculations.

This is where NVIDIA® PhysX™ Technology and GeForce® processors come in. NVIDIA PhysX is a powerful physics engine which enables real-time physics in leading edge PC and console games. PhysX software is widely adopted by over 150 games, is used by more than 10,000 registered users and is supported on Sony Playstation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PC.

In addition, PhysX is designed specifically for hardware acceleration by powerful processors with hundreds of cores. Combined with the tremendous parallel processing capability of the GPU, PhysX will provide an exponential increase in physics processing power and will take gaming to a new level delivering rich, immersive physical gaming environments with features such as:

Explosions that cause dust and collateral debris

Characters with complex, jointed geometries for more life-like motion and interaction

Spectacular new weapons with incredible effects

Cloth that drapes and tears naturally

Dense smoke & fog that billow around objects in motion

The only way to get real physics with the scale, sophistication, fidelity and level of interactivity that dramatically alters your entertainment experience will be with one of the millions of NVIDIA PhysX-ready GeForce processors.

No it is a physx card, you seem to think the physx card does any rendering, but it is not.

Now, please go away from these CUDA forums, people are trying to do CUDA things here.

OH! CUDA uses a GPU right!?

and the GPU is in Nvidia cards Right! SO! the only difference is you can also use VIDEO…so!

The GPU in the PhysX card can crunch the numbers too! JUST because it don,t have a video output you think it cannot do anything!

WHERE do you think CUDA came from! It came from the PhysX-1 GPU card…without it CUDA would be a figment of your BRAIN!

PhysX software is widely adopted by over 150 games, is used by more than 10,000 registered users and is supported on Sony Playstation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PC.

Note the Above! This was BEFORE Nvidia brought Ageia!

You may notice that Nvidia STILL use the PhysX name which came from the PhysX card.YOU DO NOT NEED A VIDEO FEED from the card,THAT is taken care of by the OTHER VIDEO CARD in the SYSTEM,You Seem to think that this card cannot do anything! It WOULD if NVIDIA would SUPPORT IT as an addon GPU! and add to the GPU,s you have now.

The More GPUs the more powerfull CUDA would be would it not!

NVIDIA MODIFIED THE SOFTWARE so you could play around with CUDA on a Nvidia GPU,The SOFTWARE CAME FROM AGEIA,s CARD,the card did the crunching and sent it to the VIDEO card which did the rest!

SO don,t say the card don,t do rendering it don,t HAVE TO! It does the above info just as the Video card gpu does it! I,ve USED IT! External Media

Think! Video card GPU + Ageia card GPU + Video card GPU + Video card GPU, Or as I have Video card GTX 280 GPU + Ageia GPU with no linking software! That is ALL that is missing,Nvidia did not include the Ageia card in the software that is all,YET it was the device the software ran on before Nvidia got hold of it and locked it out! Two months ago NVIDIA allowed one to use EITHER GPU by selecting the GPU but one could not use another GPU along with the other! It was easy to run the Ageia card cause the software already ran on it,Nvidia took that softare and made it work on Nvidia card GPU,s and the Ageia GPU,but with the Latest revision the Ageia side is GREYED OUT so that ONLY the Nvidia version works.

NOW one can use multi GPU video cards, but cannot use the Ageia card at all… $250.00 down the tube…Ageia was the begining of all this with their GPU card, why is Nvidia getting rid of it! Easy, It was NOT MADE BY US sindrome! It is STILL being sold! External Media

Do the research! before you Mouth off! :">

Dennis

Stop. You are wrong. CUDA has nothing to do with Ageia’s PhysX PPU. GPUs that don’t have a display output are the Tesla line of products. The PPU is something else that is not a GPU at all.

CUDA was available more than 1 year before NVIDIA bought Aegeia. Then, when NVIDIA bought Aegeia they ported Physx to CUDA. The card from Aegeia is NOT a GPU, your telling otherwise shows either stupidity or youthful ignorance.

Do your research before you start posting big stories on forums, I am sorry you bought an Aegeia card, but that’s life.

Thing is, the PhysX is old, weak, and uses the PCI bus. I’m not sure how slow it is exactly, but using your GTX280 for both graphics and physics will undoubtedly give you better performance.

Come on, it’s three years old.
