Difference between 2D and 3D action recognition net

According to the documentation of 3D action recognition net, it is mentioned that the difference between the 2D and 3D model is that in 3D the extra dimension holds the temporal information.
When do we use each of the model in what case?

Actually I mentioned Action Recognition Net and not Posenet
