Topic Description

I import object from OnShape to Isaac Sim. In OnShape I choose Ball Mate but it will be multiple Revolute Joints in Isaac Sim. Why it is not Spherical Joint?

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a ball mate in Onshape
  2. Import to Isaac Sim

We chose to split the Ball Mate into multiple revolute joints because this approach allows us to assign joint drives to each rotational axis individually. In Isaac Sim, spherical joints currently do not support joint drive functionality, which means you cannot directly control or actuate their rotation through simulation controllers.

That is great. What if my ball mate is passive joint? The passive joint is just a connection between an active joint to the end effector.

But I want the connection is strong. I do not want to have the problem like 2 connection point separate while joint is moving. I questioned a post: How to config passive joint but still waiting for the response. Could you check the post, please?

Using three passive joints for the ball mate should be okay. If you encounter any issues and have already posted about them in another topic, let’s continue tracking the discussion there.
