Dual Spark Ducted Cooling Cage

Can you send the components for this mini-rack and the fans. I like this set up. My second spark just shut itself down, so some fans are in my future

Yeah, no problem! Sorry to hear you’re having issues with thermal shutdown. The extra airflow from external fans should definitely help! Here’s the full cooling parts list:

(1) DeskPi RackMate T2 — since my inital posted, I replaced the smaller T1 for the slightly larger T2
(1) Aqua Computer OCTO fan controller
(2) GeeekPi Vented 10" 2U Blank Panels
(4) Noctua NF-A8 (80mm)
(2) Noctua extension cables
(2) Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM 4-pin (120mm)

Two NF-A8’s are zip tied to each blank panel, pointed straight at the front of each Spark. I put magnets on the panels to pop them off for quick access to the Sparks without unscrewing anything. The two NF-A12x25s sit behind the Sparks pointed upward, pulling exhaust up and out the back of the rack.

The OCTO ramps everything off GPU temp, so it stays quiet at idle and only spins up under load.

Thanks a lot for this design. I was looking for exactly something like this. I personally don’t have a 3D printer but I found a professional 3D printing service. They recommended to use PETG carbon fibre as it has more heat resistance. I am waiting for the print to finish to see how it turns out to be.

I have a very noob question. How do you connect the fan. The Noctua 120mm fan has a PWM connector but how do I connect that with the usb-c port.

I’m getting dual Asus gx10 soon, what would be the best way to add cooling for them? I have a 3d printer and can get some extra noctua fans if needed. I’ve been reading this thread but there are some many designs, I’m not sure what would be the best for me.
I also have a 10" rack, so I can mount them there, or by themselves

I say run them for a while and see if you want them to run colder. Unless the units are defective they won’t overheat and crash under load.

I’m making my own cooling solution because I’m curious to see if I can keep them under 70C during sustained load. They can hit up towards 87C without additional cooling. They are however 100% stable.

Curious to know what kind of cooling solution you are developing.

The print is complete. Really love the design. I am yet to install the fan in the back but the angled exhaust is already helping by directing the hot air away from the wires behind. None of the wires and the QSFP cables are getting as hot as they used to. I am sure the exhaust fan will contribute to keeping things cool even more.

Wow – nice print!

This is mine, I’m still waiting for the blower fans but I have 2 more stands being printed right now. Hopefully the stands will arrive next week.
