Either the device cannot mount the NFS server on the host or a flash command has failed

Hello,

I’ve been trying to flash my Jetson Orin NX 16 GB with the Seeed A603 carrier board. I have now tried multiple devices, multiple versions of Jetpack, multiple Ubuntu versions but it keeps failing, usually with the error:

Either the device cannot mount the NFS server on the host or a flash command has failed

When I then try the suggested SSH command to see the logs, it simply hangs, so I am unable to get more information.

I am a bit at a loss as I’ve been trying this for days but it does not seem to want to work. I’ve tried contacting Seeed too but they have not provided much clear guidance or help, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Would suggest consult with vendor of the board for further support. Since they design the board and shall provide proper suggestion.

You could refer to A603 Carrier Board | Seeed Studio Wiki to see if able to help to flash your board successfully first.

I would say you should learn some basic to dump logs first.

You need to share host side log by copy all the text logs into a file and attach it here.

For device side log, use the uart console to capture it and also attach full text.

Also, since our flash requires NFS, are you sure your host PC has firewall disabled?

Hello,

Here’s the host logs:

host_logs.txt (2.6 KB)

And here’s the command output in the host terminal:

host_command_output.txt (293.2 KB)

As for the device side, I don’t currently seem to have the cables required to check the uart console but I will try and get one. In the meantime, does this provide any guidance? I did disable the firewall with sudo ufw disable but I got the same result.

Thank you!

Device side UART log might tell more I think.

Hello,

I finally got UART logs - here is the end part:

jetson_log.txt (36.9 KB)

It seems clear now that it is failing due to the temperature getting too high. I don’t have a fan installed. Is that usually required to flash?

Yes, a fan is always required.

To clarify, a fan is always required to flash, or a fan is always required at all times for all form factors and carrier boards? If the latter, are there any fans that are especially low profile/small form factor that are recommended?

This kind of question is hard to answer. If your usecase only uses very low usage of all the processors, then it may work with proper thermal design and may not need fan.

But if you expect running lots of stress on the Jetson, I would say you would go to heat up soon without a fan.

Our hardware design guide may tell the detail of the fan.
