ENGINE GRAPHICS GPCCLIENT_T1_0 faulted @ 0x12ee_00903000. Fault is of type FAULT_PDE ACCESS_TYPE_READ

Lately I’ve been receiving the error mentioned in the subject quite a lot lately. Both on my laptop and my desktop. This error message also causes the 3D game or application to crash back to the desktop. The system will also freeze completely for ~ 5 - 10 seconds, then resume operation and print the error mentioned above

A few instances where it occurs:

  • Starting Planet Zoo using Proton 5.0-10 or Proton 5.13-4
  • Randomly when playing Mortal Kombat 11 using Proton-GE-5.21-GE-1
  • Running a variety of CUDA operations.

Currently I’m running kernel 5.10.1-r1 with nvidia-drivers-455.45.01 (patched with the issue related to the bug), but I’ve encountered the same issue with kernel 5.8 and 5.9.

My nv-smi.log as the nvidia-bug-report states the tool is not available, while it is installed on the system…

The XID31 you’re getting would point to the known vulkan out-of-memory result of the driver, though you sure have lot’s of it, smem as well as vmem. Planet zoo also doesn’t look like it would consume a lot of memory. What kind of cuda operations are you running to run into this?
