External monitor refresh rate problems

@amrits

On Windows, I have only one option to choose: YCbCr422. I don’t have RGB or YCbCr420.

Nothing happened when I set on Linux Option “ForceYUV420” “true”

@amrits

any updates?

I seem to be having the same issue, I’m wondering now if it’s caused by early KMS. Do you happen to be using early KMS aswell?

@Springfield
We are still working on it, shall update once it is fixed from our end.

This is also happening to me on Ubuntu 21.04 / KDE Plasma 5.22.5 / KDE Frameworks Version 5.86.0 / X11.

I’ve got a GeForce RTX 2080 Mobile and a single external monitor, an LG Ultra. I dual boot with windows 10 and can run just fine at 60hz at 3840x2160.

My issue is maybe slightly different, in that KDE TELLS ME I’m running at 60hz, but I’m most definitely not. When I run a game, I’m at 60hz, but generally I’m at ~23hz it seems.

It’s worth mentioning that before I upgraded to Ubuntu 21.04 from 20.04, I was able to run at 3840x2160 @ 60hz for real. But now, no.

The mode is plainly available in xrandr results.

xrandr output is at the end (sorry, new users can’t put links)…

`sudo nvidia-bug-report.sh’ results here:
nvidia-bug-report.log.gz (314.2 KB)

This info must exist in the report, but just in case, here is a scree shot of my Software & Updates → Additional Drivers:

Hope I’m barking up the right tree here!

Thank you very much.

@amrits is there additional data I can provide for you since I’m experiencing a similar/the same(?) issue? My monitor was working fine in Windows at 4k@60hz (although I had to manually add the mode), but my monitor in Linux runs at 4k@<=30hz but SAYS it’s at 60hz.

It’s driving me nuts so if there’s anything you can do to help I’d appreciate it a lot.

Thank you.

I’d appreciate it if you could keep the conversation here, or at least update here, for visibility. Thank you.

This video solved my problem:

My system was rendering using my AMD GPU rather than my NVidia card. Problem solved!

Or at least, I thought it did, but I had changed 2 things. I had also set my ‘nvidia-settings’ → PRIME Profiles → Select the GPU you would like to use → ‘NVIDIA (Performance Mode)’ and this fixed it for real.

I spent so much time on this. I hope someone else will find it useful.

Hi @amrits

Any news on this?

We have been able to root caused the issue, fix will be incorporated in future release driver.
Shall inform once it is publicly released.

Please verify it with driver 530.30.02 and share test results.

Hello @amrits,

I installed version 530.30.02, and now I have to choose 60Hz. It appears that everything is working fine.

Here is the report.

Thank you!

Thanks for sharing the test results, I will archive the bug internally.

Hi @amrits

I noticed that when I switch from Windows to Linux, the problematic monitor shows a black screen and only a frozen cursor is visible.

Then, I must completely shut down the PC and boot Linux, after which it works. If I only restart, it does not work, only a complete shutdown works.
