Fan connector only working if half inserted?

Greetings,

My son is 12 and is transitioning from pi/python to nano/c++ for a few projects he’s working on. Today my secretarial role brings me to query you concerning an odd (for us) phenomena: you half insert the fan and it works. You completely insert it and it fails.

The connector on the motherboard looks all good: no bent pin everything looks straight.

Generally if only half inserting fan works, it might be a contact issue between the fan and fan connector.
