Fan Speed too high per default

Hi all,

I am having trouble with the fans on a DRIVE AGX XAVIER Development Kit.

As soon as the system boots up the fans start spinning at a very high rpm, even though the system is idle.

Any advice on how to set the fan speed manually?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Schestag

Edit: I already looked at https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1055355/general/loud-fan-noise-after-upgrading-to-software-9-0/ which did not work for me…

Hi friedii.schestag,

Which DRIVE Software version are you using? There is also a developer trying the steps on 10.0 and it’s working for him. FYI.

https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1069285/general/fan-management-on-drive10/

Hi Vick,

how do I get the DRIVE software version?

I think that topic just refers back to the one I already tried unsuccessfully.

Thanks :)

If DriveWorks installed on your Xavier A is version 2.2 (as below), that means your system got DRIVE Software 10.0 installed.

nvidia@tegra-ubuntu:~$ ls -l /usr/local/driveworks
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 Nov 27 03:32 /usr/local/driveworks → /usr/local/driveworks-2.2

But if you have not installed DRIVE Software via SDK Manager onto your system by yourself, I would still suggest you to follow the steps in below link to install the latest release (DRIVE Software 10.0) again. So you can ensure nothing was messed up.

Yes, the developer was referring back to the same topic. Just want you know people tried the steps successfully on DRIVE Software 9.0 and 10.0.

Hi friedii.schestag,

If this is not your business email ID, we request that you use business email.

Thanks!

Updating the software and applying the fix in https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1055355/general/loud-fan-noise-after-upgrading-to-software-9-0/post/5351042/#5351042 reduced the fan noise from ~50dB to ~43dB. Is there any way to further reduce it? Maybe by modifying the fanctrl config files?
