Fedora 28 Update to driver 410.79 (NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver)

Hi,
my system was working problems before the update. Now nvidia-smi can’t access the driver, the version is 410.79. After the update I uninstalled Cuda and the Nvida-driver driver, and then reinstalled Cuda.

Is there a way to fix the problem without reinstalling fedora?

System:

  • Fedora 28
  • Cuda 10.0
  • Driver 410.79
  • 2x Quadro P5000

The update brought you a 4.20 kernel, the 410.79 driver is incompatible with that. Please upgrade to a current 410/418 driver.

Thanks for the quick help! I solved the problem by booting into the old kernel.
