Flashing issues uploading Jetpack 6

This is my first experience working with a Jetson Orin Nano.

I have been trying to flash the ssd memory system to upgrade to Jetpack 6.1, but every time that try it start flashing without problems and when it reach 20 to 25% the flashing failed.

Hi.

Some questions to confirm:

  • What is your ubuntu version?
  • Is your ubuntu version running on a physical machine or a virtual machine(e.g. VMware, VirtualBox)?

Thanks

Hi David, thanks for replying.

Ubuntu’s current version in the 20.04 and it is also using a VM (Ubuntu 18.04 )

Best regards

Hi josea.gutierrezr,

The sdk manager is installed in Ubuntu 20.04 or your VM (Ubuntu 18.04)

Thanks

Hi @josea.gutierrezr,

As you are using the SDKManager, can you confirm that you are following the same steps mentioned in our Orin Nano developer wiki? Have you tried flashing the device with the flash.sh script instead of the SDKManager? Check the Flashing the Board from Cmdline section to do so.

I am also curious: is the SDKManager right now running on the VM or on the Ubuntu 20.04 device?

Hi David,

I have a Windows PC as well as the Jetson Orin Nano Computer, where I configured an Ubuntu environment using the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). The Ubuntu version installed on this PC matches the version of Ubuntu installed on the SSD. Both have version 20.04 installed. To flash the SSD memory, I put the Jetson Orin Nano in REC Flash mode and then connected both computers via a USB-C serial connection. To pair the usb ports, I am using the tool usbipd which is offered in Windows to bind and attach the port connection required. The Windows version used in my PC is Windows 11.

The SDK Manager is already installed in the Ubuntu environment created on my Windows PC. The version of SDK Manager used in this instance is 2.2.0. As I mentioned before, the SDK Manager started flashing without problems, but suddenly, when it reached 30%, the flashing failed.

Hi @josea.gutierrezr

Are you ensuring that the device is in recovery mode? Can you send the output of the lsusb command after setting it into recovery mode?

Hi Ricardo.

I am using a similar recipe but no from the developer Wiki.

For the USB port connectivity I followed this link

Hi Jose,

Do you have physical ubuntu 20.04/22.04 to cross check whether issue exist?
If no, you could try dual boot with your windows machine.

Thanks

Hi David.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will explore this option to evaluate how feasible it would be with hardware that I have already.

Thanks for your support.

Hi @josea.gutierrezr

If you decide to run the flash on an Ubuntu environment and get the same error, don’t hesitate to contact me for more support. Also, have you tested flashing the device with another JP version? It might be worth testing that your JetPack environment is not corrupted.

Thanks Ricardo.

Actually, I got a dual boot Ubuntu installed in my laptop during the weekend I finished flashing the NVMe drive without any issues. I finally got the 36.1 firmware version and Jetpack 6 installed in my Jetson Orin Nano already.

Best regards
