GeForce 8950 GX2 like 2 separate 8800gts?

It will contain 2хG80 (2х96 stream proc.), 2 х 640MB memory in one board.
For CUDA it seems like 2 separate 8800GTS?
cudaGetDeviceCount return 2 device?

I’d be very warey regarding anything that has a GX2 at the end of it. I purchased a 7950GX2 when they first come out £420 - $800 or so and I’ve had nothing but problems with it.

Seems that nvidia get these ideas and state that this card is the “best” and all that, but for me the 7950 range has just been a money making stopgap to keep market sales high b4 the launch of the 8800 range.

So in all fairness the same could happen. I’d probably hold out if anyone is considering purchasing a GX2 model of anything and get the next model up.

:)

We can’t comment on unannounced products.

As for 7950 GX2, I know multiple of users and developers who’ve had great results with that board, and the quadro dual-GPU boards.

Certainly not with GNU/Linux as it is impossible to launch two separate (and stable) X servers on the two cards. The only model that allows this is a Quadro (3000$, though, thank you nvidia ;)

If you know users and developers who’ve had great results with a 7950 gx2 using both cards on GNU/Linux and recent drivers, I would be glad to get more details…

Thanks.

well, i have actualy found a picture of this thing (took me about 2 months) and it looks almost like the 7950… just better.,.;… ENJOY!http://www.hardspell.com/pic/2006/6/6/3216…d71f4501200.jpg

its supposed to have 150% more shaders than the 8800… so it should be good

oh, i have also just found (5 min ago, literally) what the ideal system specs will be on the 8950. If you already know them, whatever. But, if you haven’t you’ll be in for a suprise.

GeForce 8950 GX 2-> two chips g80 on one card, 2 X 96 stream processors, 2 X 320- bit memory system bus , 2 X 640 mb. memory of type GDDR-4, frequency 575/2000 MHz, the frequency of shader domain is 1700 MHz, recommended retail price $649

I also found this 8800 “ultra” so… yea…

GeForce 8800 Ultra - > 128 stream processors, 384- bit memory system bus , 768 mb memory of type GDDR-4, frequency 650/2200 MHz, the frequency of shader domain 1800 MHz, recommended retail price $549.

Mark,

If you know users and developers who’ve had great results with a 7950 gx2 using both cards on GNU/Linux and recent drivers, I would really be glad if you can point useful technical details (how to do it, basically…)

Thanks
