I compiled the source code of the Jetson Xavier NX kernel, following the official tutorial, but the following error appeared after burning the system to the development board. The strange thing is that using the serial port to log in, can run “ls, pwd” and other commands, indicating that my root file system is OK.

The steps are as follows:

  1. Installation environment

Finally, the system can enter the account and password configuration interface, as well as region selection and so on. However, after the loading, the desktop cannot be accessed. The following error is found when the serial port module is used to view system logs:

Hi,

Would the same error happen if you flash the default BSP, instead of the one compiled by yourself?
Also, we no longer maintains kernel 4.9/L4T 32.x, so please try the same workflow on kernel 5.10/L4T 35.x if there is no specific reason you have to use older releases.

Do you know what L4T version you are using?
Also, did you make any modification to the kernel source?

L4T R32.6.1 was used without any changes to the kernel source code

Can you try 32.7.4 or 35.4.1?
Is is a DevKit or a custom carrier board?

Problem solved, jetpack4.6 supports 32.6.1, while I use jetpack4.6.4 supports 32.7.4. I was compiling the 32.6.1 kernel on jetpack4.6.4 when this error occurred. It should also be noted that jetpack4.6 and jetpack4.6.4 are two completely different versions, and 4.6.4 has a lot of changes. Suggest to check “https://developer.nvidia.com/” and “https://developer.nvidia.com/embedded/jetpack-sdk-46” to understand the relationship between different jetpack version.

Though you are supposed to file another topic, I’ll still answer here.
If you only buy a module itself instead of with a DevKit, the QSPI memory on the module is empty, meaning there is no bootloader stuff on it.

Do something like this:

sudo ./flash.sh -r jetson-xavier-nx-devkit-qspi internal
