Hello,
I have recently been experiencing a problem with my GeForce 210 card which is driving the monitor on my system. It is falling of the bus on my Fedora 18 (3.8.8-203.fc18.x86_64) desktop system and causing the X server to lockup. I have been able to successfully log into the system after lockup and reboot it from the command line.
This is occurring even though I am setting on both GPUs in my system (GeForce 210 & GeForce GTX 460) the persistence flags to “Enabled” during the boot process via rc.local, see below.
I was not experiencing any problems with my Fedora 18 installation until a couple of weeks ago. However, I was experiencing the same system lockup problems with Fedora 17 after about approximately the same length of time from when I first installed the OS.
Has anyone else had any problems like this? I am not experiencing any problems with my notebook which also has GTX 460M card and Fedora 18 installed on it.
I set “nosoftlockup video=vesa:off vga=normal” on the boot line in an attempt to quiet the GPU-related messages being reported to /var/log/messages.
/var/log/messages is reporting the following when the system locks up, i.e. complete screen freeze with no keyboard and/or mouse input being accepted.
Apr 28 10:18:42 manzano rc.local[1323]: Enabled persistence mode for GPU 0000:03:00.0.

Apr 28 11:02:51 manzano rc.local[1362]: Enabled persistence mode for GPU 0000:04:00.0.
(Note that system clock is lagging real-time and it is adjusted between the enablement of the persistence mode and the GPU falling off the bus. The output above is the linear sequence of events as recorded in /var/log/messages.)
The GeForce 210 card is the 03:00.0 pci device & the GTX 460 is the 04:00.0 pci device.
No other error messages are being reported in /var/log/messages about X-server crashing, etc, so I can only believe that its the GeForce 210 card falling off the bus which is causing the system lockup.
Usually hard rebooting of the system resolves the problem, but I’ve also experience the GeForce 210 card falling off the bus and the system locking up after a period of inactivity (i.e. no keyboard or mouse input).
Any help about this problem would be most appreciated. I do not think fedora developers will help with this problem given the use of the nvidia driver (304.88) instead of the nouveau driver.
Thanks.
Doug
