Graphics driver could not find compatible graphics while trying to install cuda 9.0

I am trying to install cuda 9.0 to be able to use it with tensorflow. I have a dell inspiron 7577 with NVIDIA Geforce gtx 1060 Max Q. When I try to install cuda 9.0 in mid way I get this message to “continue” or “close”. The message says that the

“This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware. you may continue installation but you may not be able to run cuda applications … It is suggested that you keep your existing driver and install the remaining portions of the CUDA toolkit”.

Could any body tell me if this is the reason I am not able to make tensorflow-gpu work ?

You should just keep whatever driver was already installed on that laptop. You don’t need to install the driver from the CUDA toolkit installer. The driver you already have should work with CUDA 9.0
