GTX 1070 Ti driver for Solaris 11.4?

Are there any GTX 1070 Ti drivers for Solaris 11.4?

Sorry, I can’t help, but only want to say, “me, too”. I would like to know the answer to this.

The newer drivers from NVIDIA support the GTX 1070 Ti on Solaris. See my post above with the problems I had installing the latest drivers. I would recommend keeping the driver/graphics/nvidia package installed even though this may not be how it’s supposed to work. Just install the driver from the NVIDIA website and change permissions on /dev/nvidiactl and /dev/nvidia-modeset.

Are you sure the GTX 1070 Ti is supported? Have you tried it yourself? The reason I ask is because when I tried to install the driver, I got error messages as described here:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/1039210/solaris/solaris11-4-no-x11/

WARNING: Signature verification of module /kernel/drv/amd64/nvidia failed
WARNING: Signature verification of module /kernel/drv/amd64/nvidia_modeset failed

krtld: WARNING: Signature verification of module /kernel/drv/amd64/nvidia failed
krtld: WARNING: Signature verification of module /kernel/drv/amd64/nvidia_modeset failed
nvidia_modeset: Loading NVIDIA Kernel Mode Setting Driver for UNIX platforms

Did you get these error messages when you installed GTX 1070 Ti drivers?

I do not have a 1070 Ti myself, so all I can go on is the release notes that say support has been added. I also get the Signature verification messages as well, but my driver works fine. Have you tried running nvidia-smi to see if it lists the card?

Interesting! So you have the same error messages and still you got it to work. What steps did you take to make it work? If you tell me, I will verify it works, and I will write down all the commands you need to type, for future reference. I am sure people will thank me for that! :)

I have not tried nvidia-smi. I will very soon and report back. Thanx for your help! :)

Yes, the driver works fine even with those messages. See my other forum post “OpenGL doesnt work with 410.57 / Solaris 11.4” from a couple of weeks ago about how I had to setup permissions to make it work. That’s most likely your problem since the 1070 Ti should be supported in 387.34. The permissions will reset though if you ever have to do a reconfigure via /reconfigure file or -r kernel arg so just remember to set them back. I’m not sure who that really lies on to fix. I would think Nvidia could help since the Sun packaged drivers do not have this problem.

nvidia-smi should work regardless on a command line from anywhere and at least ID your card. If you can do that then it should be possible to make it work! :)

Ok, now I have installed Solaris 11.4 again.

# nvidia-smi
Failed to initialize NVML: Uknown Error

Hmmm… it seems I have another problem than you have? Do you have any clue of where to start digging?

When I boot Solaris 11.4, it says:

WARNING: Signature verification of module /kernel/drv/amd64/nvidia failed
WARNING: Signature verification of module /kernel/drv/amd64/nvidia_modeset failed
Loading NVIDIA Kernel Mode Setting Driver for UNIX platforms 387.34
...
nvidia_modeset: Unloading

I have installed the driver with

# sh ./NVIDIA-Solaris-x86-387.34.run
# reboot -- -r

Hmmmm, do you happen to see anything like this in /var/adm/messages after the verification failed messages?

As you can see in the post above, my log file does not show anything like this.

Yes, it looks like it’s not actually seeing the card. :( While that driver you are using is supposed to support that card, the only suggestion I have right off hand would be to see if a newer version detects the card as that one is pretty old. You can go to https://www.nvidia.com/object/solaris-display-archive.html to get the latest versions.

It should certainly show up in nvidia-smi and /var/adm/messages even if it doesn’t work in X. You may also want to see if prtdiag will work on your system. Run prtdiag -v and see if it shows up in a populated PCIe slot.

I apologize, when I looked at the drivers in more detail it appears the later ones do not support anything but the quadro cards. I thought they were all a unified driver. I’ll see if I can find anything else.

You may also want to run a scanpci. For instance I get this:

scanpci|grep -i nvidia

NVIDIA Corporation GK107 [NVS 510]
NVIDIA Corporation GK107 HDMI Audio Controller

Hmmmm… Weird. I did as you suggested, and I see the card.

# scanpci
pci bus 0x0001 cardnum 0x00 function 0x00: vendor 0x10de device 0x1b82
NVIDIA Corporation GP104 [GeForce GTX 1070 Ti]
pci bus 0x0001 cardnum 0x00 function 0x01: vendor 0x10de device 0x10f0
NVIDIA Corporation GP104 High Definition Audio Controller

Also, I see this:

# prtdiag

==== Upgradeable Slots ====================================

ID Status Type Description
--- --------- ---------------- ----------------------------
0 available PCI Express PCH_SLOT1 PCI-E 2.0 X1 (INX4)
1 in use PCI Express CPU_SLOT2 PCI-E 3.0 X4 (IN X16)
2 available PCI Express PCH_SLOT3 PCI-E 2.0 X1 (INX4)
3 available PCI Express CPU_SLOT4 PCI-E 3.0 X8 (IN X16)
4 available PCI Express PCH_SLOT5 PCI-E 2.0 X1 (INX4)
5 in use PCI Express CPU_SLOT6 PCI-E 3.0 X16

So, yes the card is recognized. But, nvidia driver does not work.
