GTX 970 + driver 375.20: Xid 69 error

I just experienced something strange with driver v375.20 running on my GTX 970: I was running the Second Life viewer and suddenly the FPS rate dropped as the following error messages appeared in /var/log/messages:

Nov 23 23:40:17 localhost klogd: NVRM: GPU at PCI:0000:01:00: GPU-9cf0476e-4dbe-8c0f-4352-800be7075c41
Nov 23 23:40:17 localhost klogd: NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 69, Class Error: ChId 0010, Class 0000b197, Offset 000019bc, Data 00100000, ErrorCode 0000000c
Nov 23 23:40:17 localhost klogd: NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 50,  L2 -> L1

The GPU clock then stayed locked at 539MHz, even after closing the 3D app (SL viewer). Only a reboot allowed to get things back in order.
