How to configure Xavier to have the same launcher as the normal desktop Ubuntu 18.04 has?

I like how in Ubuntu 18.04 desktop on the host, the icon on the bottom left is a launcher that looks really nice where you can easily browse for and open applications up. The Nvidia flashed jetpack OS looks nothing like it. Is there some configuration to add that kind of capability into the Jetson Xavier? They both look a little different even though they are both 18.04… is this some system display customization setting?

The Jetson image in JetPack 4.1.1 uses Unity by default for performance reasons. You can change it to GNome by logging out, then clicking on the little gear icon and selecting GNome, then logging back in.

Hi,

how severe ar the performance issues?

I am getting unity-panel-ser failures and am thinking of moving away from unity

Apr 26 20:11:09 jetson unity-panel-ser[7372]: window_menu_model_new: assertion ‘BAMF_IS_APPLICATION(app)’ failed

Apr 26 20:11:09 jetson unity-panel-ser[7372]: track_menus: assertion ‘IS_WINDOW_MENU(menus)’ failed

Apr 26 20:11:09 jetson unity-panel-ser[7372]: menus_destroyed: assertion ‘IS_WINDOW_MENU(wm)’ failed

thanks chris
