How to get text console on DSI display?

I have the following problem: the graphical environment works just fine on a TFT screen connected to the DSI interface. However, when I press CTRL-alt F4 to get into a text console, the screen goes blank. dmesg output also shows that the screen is blanked / disabled (I tried resolutions from 800x600 to 1920x1080 but no difference). Fbset shows the right resolution. When I configure the system to use HDMI only, I get the console on the HDMI screen (TFT panel is fb0 so it will take precedence over the HMDI screen).

Somehow the virtual console won’t show on the TFT display and I don’t see why not. I hope somebody can point me in the right direction on where to look.

Edit: What I’m wondering: is there some function to call in the kernel which registers a display as being ‘virtual console enabled’? There has to be a way that the system knows it can use a certain display as a console.

Sorry for getting back so late… I have tried your patch last week and it works. Many thanks for that!

The only remaining problem is that a black background shows as light gray. Blue and red background work just fine so that is not a major issue.
