I don't understand how to use the search paths

I click the + sign to add a new directory to search paths:

And all it does is add an empty folder with no way to set the path. I created my extension, and the whole time I thought my extension was saved where I created, I found out VS Code was looking in some other directory. So I deleted everything and copied to the directory I want the add on in, and now Code doesn’t know how to find it.

What is the point of the + sign if you can’t add a directory with it?

When you hit the + sign it will add an empty line. If you double click on that line, make sure your cursor is close to the open button, it should allow you to type in a directory.
