I2Cset, no boot

Hi jbuttenshaw,

Could you share a summary of what you’ve done to make it able to flash?

It doesn’t boot but it is now flashing.

I started fresh and followed every step mentioned in this thread: after i2cset test, nano can't boot - #70 by lonesomesnow i.e. Applied each of the binaries in sequence and modified the files as mentioned. The only difference being that I’ve only ever used the image created by SDK manager (Jetpack 4.3).

The changes boiled down to:

tail jetson-nano-emmc.conf
# OF THIS SOFTWARE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGE.

Let me know if you have anything for me to try to make it boot.

Thanks for your help

Will it be able to flash if you don’t apply nvtboot_20190711.tar.gz but only the rest of patch?

I just want to check that because the nvtboot binary was shared for earlier release like rel-32.1 but not rel-32.3. So it is possible to have compatibility issue.

And more precisely, I think the only solution that resolved the issue on rel-32.1 is below patch.

This one should be compatible to rel-32.3.1 so please try this and this one only.

Hi,

We just had a conclusion with another forum user with below post.

Please try this method and see if it can work with you. Actually, we are just doing the same thing. The only difference is not using rel-32.1 nvtboot on rel-32.3.1.

Yeah correct, I was able to flash without applying 20190711.

I will try the other fixes you’ve listed shortly. Thanks a lot

Hi,

I guess no other fixes would actually work. Only this method would work.
Is everything fine now?

Hi Wayne,

That fix didn’t work either. The device flashes fine but then won’t boot, same output as before. Am I able to RMA this unit?

Thanks so much for your efforts.

James

Hi,

Which is “same output as before”? Since this thread is very long, I would suggest you to share the exact log again.

Please also tell what you’ve done to make your board able to flash. Since another forum user already successfully flashed and booting up his device, I think it should be applicable to your case too.

I just followed the instructions in post #33 exactly.

UART output during flash is:

Hi,

Hey, I just notice there are many conflicts in your statement…

You keep saying “your flash is fine” but it is obviously not. It is obvious that there is “Failed flashing t210ref”.

Failed flashing t210ref.

Also, are you sure you are using a emmc module but not a sdcard module?

It has successfully flashed at times but never successfully booted. With the most recent procedure you supplied it didn’t flash correctly. It is definitely the production model with no SD card.

HI, jbuttenshaw

I think you can already access your I2C-EEPROM from U-Boot console.
Hit enter at following log and execute some U-Boot i2c commands.

U-Boot 2016.07-g0536cf2a27 (Dec 09 2019 - 22:40:32 -0800)

Hit any key to stop autoboot: 1 0

Our Production Board envirnoment can also access I2C-EEPROM like below.

U-Boot # i2c dev 3
Setting bus to 3

U-Boot # i2c probe
Valid chip addresses: 50

Dump entire eeprom…

So, if you want to overwrite 0xff’s checksum…

It seems your EEPROM CRC is invalid ,

[1855.700] EEPROM CRC failed. Calculated crc=0xc3 CRC stored = 0x67

So you should recovery EEPROM contents to factory default.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

With the most recent procedure you supplied it didn’t flash correctly

Only the recent procedure is possible to resolve this issue. We don’t count those “successful flash” cases anymore. That nvtboot binary does not work on release > rel-32.2.

Also, please directly tell us what is your step and command to apply recent procedure.

You could also follow shinichiro.adachi’s suggestion here to use uboot to workaround this issue too.

But for me, I just want to know why the xml method does not work on your board.

Hi jbuttenshaw,

Have you resolved your issue?

No not yet, I don’t have a lot of time to work on this fix. Maybe over the next month or so.

The procedure I followed is in post #33. I followed it word for word, same files and everything.

Thanks

Hi jbuttenshaw,

Then I think you could try shinichiro.adachi’s method to correct the i2c eeprom through uboot.

I finally got around to fiddling with this more. Eventually what worked was following the steps in After i2cset test, nano can't boot in eMMC boot evironment - #24 by shinichiro.adachi but using R32.4.3 linux and rootfs. Once it flashed and booted successfully I used I2Cset, no boot - #43 by shinichiro.adachi to correct the i2c issues.

Thanks so much for all your help, sorry for the slow replies.
