Install procedure for Nvidia Driver and nvidia docker

I have several machines that have docker/nvidia-docker install along with a nvidia driver for a gpu at the OS level.

When I built these machines I installed the video driver and then the users install docker and nvidia-docker. Now when I upgrade the video driver it brakes the GUI. In other words GNOME will not start though gdm runs.

Is there a procedure to upgrade the Nvidia driver at the os level and do I have to do additional steps for docker/nvidia-docker?

I don’t really understand what you’re running how. Does gnome run inside a container? Did you reboot after upgrading the driver?
