Irregular issues with nvidia card detection in Ubuntu 20.04

I have a Nvidia GeForce GTX 960, and since few months, I encounter irregular graphic issues like the following :

  • computer starts but monitor displays “No signal”
  • OS boots successfully but after many minutes, screen freezes. When I try to reboot, I get back to issue #1, and I have to switch to CPU Intel Graphic chipset output to get video signal back
  • OS boots but the Nvidia card is not detected (either under Windows 10 or Ubuntu 20.04)

I have a dual boot Windows 10 / Ubuntu 20.04, and I get errors with both OS.

The gpu isn’t even detected by the bios, please try reseating it in its pcie slot, check power connectors/psu. If that doesn’t help, it’s likely broken.
