Hi,
DeepStream 9.0 Installation page lists GStreamer 1.24.2 as the required version on Ubuntu 24.04. We are evaluating whether nvdsudpsink can be used on a GStreamer 1.26 runtime instead.
Two questions:
Is GStreamer 1.26 a supported configuration for the nvdsudpsink plugin in DeepStream 9.0?
If not currently supported, are there known issues with running nvdsudpsink (or the broader libnvdsgst_udp.so) on GStreamer 1.26 that we should be aware of?
Context: planning a GStreamer upgrade in our internal pipeline. We’d prefer to target the latest version if it’s compatible, but would fall back to 1.24.2 if 1.26 is not supported. Thanks.
We have successfully used DeepStream plugins in GStreamer 1.26 and 1.28 environments. While DeepStream 9.0 officially targets GStreamer 1.24.2, GStreamer generally maintains ABI backwards compatibility across 1.x releases, so plugins built against 1.24 often continue to load and operate on newer runtimes.
NVIDIA only officially supports DeepStream 9.0 with GStreamer 1.24.2. However, based on GStreamer’s backward compatibility and our experience running DeepStream plugins on newer GStreamer versions, I would expect nvdsudpsink to work on GStreamer 1.26 as well.
I recommend setting up a separate GStreamer development environment instead of replacing the system GStreamer installation. The official GStreamer Meson build guide documents this workflow using gst-env.py, which sets up an isolated environment with its own PATH, LD_LIBRARY_PATH, GST_PLUGIN_PATH, GST_PLUGIN_SYSTEM_PATH, and registry settings. This keeps the test version separate from the OS packages and avoids breaking other system components that depend on the distro-provided GStreamer.
